About Me..

I’m Kerfew…

The Dubwalla, Rapwalla, Dogwalla!

British Asian Artist | Music Educator | Creative Consultant | Entrepreneur

** Since 2016, to save confusion all my music is released under the name Kerfew(UK) as there is another Kerfew!

I’m Kerfew (UK), also known as Chetan Kumar Patel, a British Asian Gujarati rapper, DJ, presenter, educator and creative entrepreneur from Leicester, UK. With over 40 years as a musician, 30+ years as a DJ and radio presenter, and 20 years as a recording artist, my career has been built around music, creativity and representing British Gujarati culture.

My musical journey began as a child, playing the naal alongside my father, a respected Gujarati singer, at community events and festivals. Those early experiences gave me a deep appreciation for music and culture, laying the foundations for everything that followed.

During the early 1990s I became a DJ and radio presenter on stations including Kickin FM and Fresh FM, before founding MIC (Mother India’s Children) in 2004. The group blended British Asian culture with hip-hop and helped pioneer a unique sound within the UK Asian music scene.

My solo career began with the release of my debut album What’s the Time? in 2006, followed by Mr. Wolf in 2018, alongside numerous singles and mixtapes. My music combines Eastern and Western influences while exploring identity, culture, community and real-life experiences. My work has received support from BBC Asian Network, BBC Radio Leicester, BBC Radio Nottingham, BBC 1Xtra, Capital Radio, and numerous community radio stations across the UK.

Throughout my career I’ve performed alongside artists including Apache Indian, GZA (Wu-Tang Clan), Cappadonna, The Beatnuts, Rodney P, Blak Twang and Pharoahe Monch, while appearing at festivals and events such as the Leicester Belgrave Mela, Leicester Riverside Festival, and 2Funky Music Café.

Away from the stage, I’m passionate about helping the next generation discover their own creativity. I currently work as a Lead Digital Music Tutor, delivering music production, songwriting, DJ skills, rap, spoken word and digital creativity to young people. Through education and mentoring, I encourage students to build confidence, develop technical skills and use music as a positive outlet for self-expression.

Social media has become another platform to celebrate my heritage. My bilingual Gujarati rap videos and comedy content—such as the viral Top Boy Slang Guide in Gujarati—have introduced Gujarati language and culture to audiences around the world, helping bridge generations while bringing humour and authenticity to British Asian storytelling.

Outside of music, I’m a proud father of three, grandfather, entrepreneur and lifelong dog lover. In 2015 I founded O’K9 Products, creating premium dog fragrances and accessories designed in the UK alongside products sourced from trusted manufacturers around the world.

Some career highlights include performing with Apache Indian at the Leicester Belgrave Mela, hosting the Leicester Haymarket Christmas Lights Switch-On, collaborating with internationally respected artists, and continuing to champion British Gujarati music through performance, education and digital media.

Whether I’m performing on stage, teaching in the classroom, presenting on radio, creating online content or developing new community projects, my mission remains the same: to inspire people, celebrate culture and show that creativity has the power to bring communities together.

For music, bookings, collaborations and media enquiries, explore my latest releases and follow Kerfew (UK) across all major digital platforms and social media.
